Next Wednesday, November 2nd, our film To Tell the Truth: Working for Change will air on Turner Classic Movies at 8pm. This is one of two episodes of our history of documentary film we’ve completed to date. Working for Change treats the development of the social documentary in the 1930s. TCM will follow this one-hour history with some of the films it covers, such as Leo Hurwitz’s Native Land and Pare Lorentz’s The Plow that Broke the Plains, for an evening of documentary filmmaking.

The following Wednesday, November 9th, TCM will air our 1940s history, To Tell the Truth: The Strategy of Truth, covering documentary as propaganda in the US, England, and Germany. Again TCM will follow our history with some classic 1940s full-length documentaries such as The Autobiography of a Jeep and The Negro Soldier.

November will also include exciting screenings of The Jazz Loft According to W. Eugene Smith (the film we produced with WNYC) in Seattle; Portland, OR; Tucson, AZ; and at Jazzfest Berlin and the Moments Festival in Spain..

On November 4th, we head to the Virginia Film Festival in Charlottesville, VA, where A Road to Home, our LGBT homeless youth film, will be featured. We’ve just returned from a wonderful screening of A Road to Home at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where the packed-house kept us answering questions for over 45 minutes.

"A fascinating, balanced insider’s look at the stakes and strategies of the confirmation wars.“

Tom Goldstein, SCOTUSblog founder

"Brilliant . . . Every American should see this film.“

Howard Fineman, Newsweek Chief Political Correspondent

With the public once again drawn to the Supreme Court following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, we’d like to draw attention to one of Lumiere Productions’ now extremely timely film, Advise & Dissent, an award-winning feature documentary that for the first time went behind the lines and into the trenches of the Supreme Court confirmation wars. With unprecedented access to senators and lobbyists, the film chronicled the collision of politics and justice in the Roberts, Miers, and Alito battles in 2005-06.
